The NAAA Annual Convention Spotlights Cox Automotive’s Leadership Role in the Remarketing Industry

This year’s National Auto Auction Association (NAAA) Annual Convention, held September 22 – 24 in Orlando, put a spotlight on the value of a holistic perspective and collaboration within the automotive industry. To kick off the event, president-elect Mike Browning (general manager, Manheim San Antonio) accepted the remarketing industry’s top leadership role. As NAAA president, Browning brings a well-rounded view of the automotive industry and is eager to put that perspective to good use.

“I’ve been a part of all sides. I’ve been a buyer and a seller. I understand the pain points, the needs and wants of all involved. I feel like I can bring everyone together,” Mike said.

Continuing the spotlight on Manheim leadership’s contribution to the auto auction industry, Jay Cadigan, vice president of industry relations for Manheim, was inducted into the NAAA Hall of Fame. “It’s our pleasure and privilege to honor Jay for his hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence,” said Frank Hackett, NAAA chief executive officer. “He’s a strong believer in the association and what its members can accomplish working together. His efforts have made a positive impact on the remarketing world and provide an outstanding example of professional achievement to future generations in our business.”

Representatives from the industry’s top brands celebrated the year’s successes with awards and recognition, highlighting new leadership aimed at revolutionizing the industry as it moves to increased digital transactions. Cox Automotive’s own Grace Huang was announced as the first ever Manheim senior vice president of inventory services. This role allows Huang to focus on the assurance that dealers are able to work “effectively and efficiently” throughout the wholesale process.

Special recognition was given to two of Cox Automotive’s top leaders, who were awarded the Warren Young Fellowship. Matt Arias, director of arbitration for Manheim and NAAA’s Auction Standards Committee chairman, and Brian Geitner, president of NextGear Capital, accepted fellowships.

Also representing Cox Automotive’s focus on industry-wide solutions, team members from AiM (Alliance Inspection Management) were on hand as ambassadors for innovation within the vehicle inspection process. Advancement in the procedures and transparency in the reporting process are vital throughout the industry as the wholesale and retail sectors move from in-lane and in-store to the online marketplace.

Autotrader Names Car Color of the Year

Autotrader has officially named the car color of the year: metallic black, based on consumer vehicle searches carried out during the first six months of 2015.

The color is so popular that an impressive one in four vehicles searched for on the website are black. The most popular black vehicles on the site are the Ford F-150,Chevrolet Silverado andJeep Wrangler, while the most popular black luxury vehicles are the BMW X5, Mercedes S550 andCadillac CTS.

According to our managing editor, Tara Trompeter, “People are more likely to buy cars that reflect their personalities, the same way they do with fashion and accessories. And everyone knows it doesn’t get more classic than black.”

Manheim GlobalTrader Inks Deal to Source and Supply Global Demand of Right Hand Drive Vehicles

Manheim GlobalTrader’s Senior Director Naji Haddad is excited to announce a strategic partnership with one of Japan’s leading wholesale auctions, Arai Shoji Co, Ltd., expanding opportunity to source and supply right hand drive (RHD) vehicles to meet previously untapped market demands around the world.

The deal enables Manheim GlobalTrader to connect with buyers in the largest international RHD markets around the world. Manheim GlobalTrader will now finance and ship RHD inventory from Japan to any of the 75 countries, territories or dependencies where there is demand.

“We wanted our clients all over the world to see us as a holistic partner to serve all of their global trade needs. Japan alone exports 1.3 million cars annually to RHD countries around the world which is the reason why we decided to form a partnership there first. We see this as just the beginning to what will be a global network of partners,” announced Haddad.

Manheim GlobalTrader Creates Diverse International Network

This new deal sets Manheim GlobalTrader apart by moving away from typical local market models where auctions provide products and services for only the markets in which they are located. By creating a team of diverse, multicultural leaders with expertise in international markets, compliance standards, import and export requirements, cultures, religions, macro-economic conditions, political landscapes and all other factors affecting global trade, the team is able to provide a value proposition hinging on diversity to specifically cater to the international client.

“Diversity is critical to our success; we truly think globally but act locally,” said Naji Haddad. “To Manheim GlobalTrader, partnerships like this one in Japan are similar to how we hire team members. Of our 25 team members, 12 of us are foreign born and represent the various cultures, religions, and markets we serve around the globe. We want to surround ourselves with team members who are better and smarter than we are so we may learn, evolve, and continue to challenge ourselves. Business partnerships allow us to do the same at a global scale.”

This and other strategic global partnerships are pivotal to Manheim GlobalTrader’s future as the business unit continue to create value for Cox Automotive customers and strengthen the company’s portfolio, highlighting new markets for the remarketing industry and Cox Automotive’s OEM partners.
